CHAPTER 4 - WE'RE BACK!

And just like that, you can leave Guardia Castle, head through Guardia Forest (be prepared to fight familiar foes, like Blue Eaglets and Roundillos), and then walk eastward back to Truce Canyon. If you want to stop by the market nearby to optimize Marle's equipment (or buy anything else), do so en route.

Retraverse the previously-tread path leading eastward through Truce Canyon, which will bring you back to the time portal, which is then used to head back to the present day. At that point, Lucca leaves the party to do research, which leaves Crono and Marle on their lonesome. While you can walk around the fair once more at will, you have to head back to Guardia Castle at some point to continue with the main quest. So, leave the fair and head westward to Guardia Forest, but be sure to stop at the nearby market, where you can finish upgrading Marle's weak equipment.

Getting through Guardia Forest is simple. You'll encounter some new, weak enemies (Amanitas and Scarabs), and you'll be able to find a Strength Capsule tucked in the eastern corner of the forest on the dirty ground, but there's little else to see, so head north to Guardia Castle posthaste. Once inside, however, things take a turn for the worse. Marle has been missing -- presumed kidnapped -- and Crono is arrested as the suspect responsible for her temporary disappearance.

The trial is pure theater, and the choices you make will depend entirely on choices you made when you first met Marle and walked around the fair for the first time. We won't discuss this at length, since you can answer how you want and are dictated by earlier actions. We will tell you that we hope you chose the virtuous path early in the game and answered the Chancellor honestly when questioned at trial. This way, a not guilty verdict is handed down, which will net you two Ethers in your jail cell once you arrive. However, something's not right... the Chancellor has tricked the jail warden into holding Crono as someone to be executed in three days' time. Keep in mind that you may be found guilty off the bat, making this scene different as it plays out for you.
