CiB Game Boy Theater - Race Drivin' and Dexterity (Episode 39)
The Original Game Boy is one of the biggest 'game changers' in the history of video games, and essentially ushered in the popularity of handheld games. There are many games that will be classic forever. There are, however, a much, much higher number of simply awful, forgettable, or downright weird games. CiB Game Boy Theater shows you some of the games you might not (and shouldn't be...) familiar with.
In the previous episode (Baseball and Hatris), I mentioned that half the games on the Game Boy just tried too hard, and weren't simple enough.
Let me just say that the fact that Race Drivin' can be a 1st-person racing game on the original Game Boy is nothing short of amazing. The question becomes: is it fun to play. Come on, now.
Maybe it was back in the early 90s. Just like I was infatuated with the original Mortal Kombat (which plays like MOLASSES), I'm sure people could have been infatuated with Race Drivin', but it's too rough to even try today. NEXT!
Dexterity, huh? I bet it's NOT a puzzle game. Pass! Thanks for watching.
... Okay, it's a puzzle game, and you flip tiles while other creatures try to flip them back, I guess. I don't know. I'm so numb to it all at this point. P-puzzle g-games f-----fun.....
