CiB Game Boy Theater - Tecmo Bowl and Tetris Plus (Episode 59)
The Original Game Boy is one of the biggest 'game changers' in the history of video games, and essentially ushered in the popularity of handheld games. There are many games that will be classic forever. There are, however, a much, much higher number of simply awful, forgettable, or downright weird games. CiB Game Boy Theater shows you some of the games you might not (and shouldn't be...) familiar with.
If you're familiar with Tecmo Bowl on NES, Tecmo Bowl on the Game Boy is actually a surprisingly accurate port. I might say, all things considered, this is the most true-to-console port that we've seen so far. Compare Tecmo Bowl to NFL Quarterback Club II, which you'll find in Episode 56. NFL Quarterback Club II is technically superior. It has way more plays, gameplay modes, and is more of a simulation --- but, it's clear to see that Tecmo Bowl is more fun. It just goes to show you: pure realism isn't always the way to go. Video games are about fun, after all. A good game. Sweet! Next!
Tetris Plus --- as it always is with puzzle games, I appreciate what's going on here. There's a reason Tetris has been around for 30+ years and people still love it. It's a great puzzle game. Addicting. Fun. I'm not good at it, so I can't really give it all the necessary time. It's Tetris, with some extra modes -- if you like Tetris, this is Tetris... Plus. Thanks for watching!
