3The Phillips CD-i, released in 1991 for almost $1000, was supposed to be the next big thing in video games. It was one of the first systems that used CD technology, so surely, this would be all the rage, right?
With a library of games that have so little gameplay that they barely count as games, a frustrating controller, and no big system-sellers, it's no wonder the system failed. Now, we are here to bring you a lot of CD-i games you haven't seen - this is the bottom of the barrel, folks - it doesn't get much worse than this.
Next up, we have Power Hitter. Oh cool, a baseball game! Kinda standard for a system, but it'll be nice to actually play a game. Let's just boot this baby up and...
What is... what is this? Oh, right, it's on the CD-i, so of course it doesn't have any gameplay. The copy I have doesn't have the manual, and if I can't figure out how to play a BASEBALL game, it's too complicated. I really have no idea how to swing, or, if you even swing yourself. Maybe you just only choose those menu options, and that's it.
Just imagine how long it would take to do a full 9 inning game, even though you don't ever pitch. Hitting only, it could take 2-3 hours. Minimum. Fun 'game' we have here --- and you know what? It's only going to get worse. These are just random games I pulled off the shelf - we're not even close to the infamous ones yet. Thanks for watching!
