Wow, it's been so long since I've had the time to play a massive RPG on stream. Expedition 33 was made by a very small team of french developers called Sandfall Interactive. Straight up, I'm going to say this is game of the year for me. The trailers first caught my eye with it's super stylish turn-based combat, and I knew right away I had to play this on day 1. If you love classic style JRPG's, with a giant world map to run around on, with tons of side quests, then you're in luck, because the team who made this shared the same passion. The story is original, every year a giant Paintress shows up to paint an ever decreasing number on a monolith. Everyone the same age as that number or older vanishes. You set out on an expedition to stop it. The gameplay involves characters each with their own unique abilities, you also have a cool dodge and parry system that rewards your reflexes, and knowledge of the enemies attacks, this makes the game more challenging and interactive than just power leveling. The music I can confidently say is one of the best video game OST's I've heard, it flows so well with setting of the game. I know I'm hyping this up but I just couldn't put this game down once I started it, the characters, story and world is so well crafted. It's definitely a must play. This wasn't even a AAA title, and it's reception has been so strong that I hope it ripples to other large developers to believe more in the turn-based classic RPG genre.
