I wanted to refresh my memory on Virtua Fighter 3 again, especially after the recent announcements. Sega continues to remain at the forefront of graphical power, using the upgraded Sega Model 3 System Board. This was one of the best looking games out during it's time. As usual Virtua Fighter 3 dominated the arcades becoming the highest-grossing machine of 1997. With the very popular Tekken series slowly looming over them I think they tried to spice things up with new alternate casual costumes. An additional Dodge button was added to add another layer to the game and the stages have changed too. Now the stages have uneven ground such as slopes and staircases making them feel more realistic. We got 2 more characters with Aoi Umenokoji, who uses Aiki-Jujustu and Taka-Arashi, a sumo wrestler. We played the Dreamcast version called Virtua Fighter 3tb for adding team battles. Unfortunately Sega went through a lot of issues that prevented them for releasing a Saturn version of the game. I personally feel despite this games massive success in the arcades it was starting to fall behind. Once other 3D fighters caught up in graphics, it had a harder time standing out, and we will start to see that as we continue our retro fighting adventure.
