Classic Oldschool with a Modern Twist! Dungeons and Doomknights - Chichuki Views
It's that time again for another Chichuki Views. This time around, we're checking out Adventurequest 8 Bit: Dungeons and Doomknights. This game is a love letter to classic NES/8 bit gaming. From the music to the interesting locales and enemies, Dungeons and Doomknights feels like it release for the NES this week and people wouldn't bat an eye over it.
At first, the controls and movement take a little getting used to but that's why it feels like a classic NES game. You were never given an opportunity to learn the ropes of an NES game and Dungeons and Doomknights is no different. You get thrown right into it, fighting skeleton enemies and bumping into them while trying to get past. One of the best features in the game is when you find your dog companion, Daimyo, and need him to attack enemies on the other side of small doors. You have a limited number of dog attacks you can use so plan accordingly. There are plenty of places to explore in this game but you might not have everything you need. One cave might be pitch black so you need a light found in another place. Another cave might have a missing child but you need something else to reach him. It's interesting to see if you have all the tools necessary. One issue I have with the game is a depth perception thing. It was tough to see if I was going to get hit by an enemy or if my axe was going to hit said enemy.
Fans of the classic and tough NES era of gaming will be in for a treat. AND if that wasn't enough, there are bonus features like Necronancy. Necronancy is a spooky bonus game that was entered by the devs for a contest, Biteoff 2022. This was a nice feature that didn't have to be included in the game. Add that to the cool soundtrack and Dungeons and Doomknights is a winner.
