This challenge is really making me realize how completely overpowered the Thief is. He's by far the most useful character for this kind of thing, and he can get away with some really absurd stuff. In this case, he allows the team to just completely ignore most of the map. His rat can even CLIMB LADDERS. Don't ask me how, but I'm very grateful.

As far as the route goes, the item setup seems very convenient for this challenge. The Driver starts with the pack of cigarettes that he needs to get access to the firing squad area, and the Green Beret is able to easily grab two smoke grenades from the first house. You need exactly two smoke grenades to save the Thief, so it's almost perfect. The only way to make it better would be to have quick access to sheets for the sheet ladder, but there's a whopping five stack available in a rather easy spot later.

It's worth noting that only the Green Beret can use the radio in the tower. The in-game objective notebook doesn't tell you this. Because of that, I needed to detour for a sufficient number of sheets to make a ladder. Trying to get the Green Beret over there the conventional way doesn't sound fun, and it would take a lot longer anyway. My initial plan was to have him climb out of the river, but for some reason it only worked in testing. That's why I went with a rather lengthy plan B.

And yes, I did go completely out of my way to pickpocket the guy that the Driver threw the cigarettes at early on. It seems appropriate to reset an enemy's inventory to default if at all reasonable. (Honestly though, it was just the principle. Can't let these jerks have my stuff.)
