So, things are not looking good for PlayStation’s new hero shooter, Concord. I ran a poll asking which new game of August people were most excited to play, and a tiny 1% of people voted for concord.
Obviously, this paints a pretty grim picture for the game, and here’s the thing - this is the first game ever from Firewalk studios. Sony obviously believes in them though, because they bought the studio last year after seeing an early build of Concord and thinking that it had potential.
It’s not looking like that investment is likely going to pay off though, because interest in Concord seems almost non-existent. Earlier this summer, the game was featured very heavily in a State of Play, and all anyone did was dog on it, pointing out how derivative it seems to be.
Simply put, it’s Guardians of the Galaxy meets Overwatch - a combo that feels like it was cooked up by boardroom suit wearers who are only interested in generating profits. But here’s the thing - gamers can smell corporate influence from a mile away, and, needless to say, they don’t like the smell.
Also, I don’t personally know of a single person who’s jonesing for a new hero shooter. The genre seems to be losing steam, overall. And the gamers who are still hooked already have their time locked down by a game they’ve invested literal years into - they’re not looking to drop their allegiance.
