Is it just me? Or are most roguelikes and roguelites more frustrating than fun?
Constantly feeling like you’re having to start over just isn’t something I generally enjoy, but I think that’s why this particular game surprised me so much.
I like that you’re constantly rewarded for playing - It never feels like you just aren’t making progress because there’s always something new to try.
Sometimes it’s an unfamiliar weapon to experiment with – other times it's an odd or unusual augment.
But because what you get to equip is more-or-less randomized, you never exactly know how your run is going to turn out.
And, as strange as it is, not knowing is what makes this game so entertaining. Every run is a different experience.
And, to put the cherry on top, the movement, dashing, parrying – the things that game’s like this live and die by – they’re fantastic.
Now, usually when I showcase an Indie game, I have to end the video by saying that it’s only on PC – but not this time.
The name of this game is Elsie, and it’s available on PS5, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch.
