In my opinion, one of the most slept-on franchises in the action-RPG genre has got to be Cat Quest. And it has to be because of the cutesy art style, right? They really do kind of look like games for kids.
But ask anyone who’s played these games, and they’ll tell you: these are legit RPGs that are not only fun to play but they’re also hilarious. My wife and I played the 2nd game together in local co-op and had a blast.
Soon, though, Cat Quest III will arrive, and not only will it be bringing back the option for local co-op play, it also sports a new pirate-themed open-world.
And you can tell, even just from the trailers, that the development team has had a blast applying a pirate twist to Cat Quest’s signature pun-forward style of humor.
In terms of gameplay, from what I can tell, it looks like the on-foot combat will be just as refined and approachable as the last game, but they've also added a new mechanic where you can travel around the map by ship.
And, of course, to give it the full pirate experience, there’s also ship combat, which looks super snappy and fluid. We’re super excited to give this game a try.
If you’re interested in trying Cat Quest, the 2nd game just happens to be one of this month’s free games on Amazon Prime gaming. As for Cat Quest III, it launches on pretty much every major platform, consoles and PC, on August 8th.
