Could Nintendo Develop a 4K Switch 2 by 2021? Possible, but unlikely...

When this report came out in Bloomberg - I thought SURELY NOT, a 4k switch 2 would be impossible given they couldn't even handle 720p (The Outer Worlds, Xenoblade Definitive Edition, Doom etc). But that would have made for a quick video, so I decided to follow through and think about how they would actually do it if Nintendo were crazy enough to achieve this.

It would have to be through Nvidia's DLSS technology that would allow Nintendo to use a lower resolution native image and output it at a higher one using AI/neural networks to predict a quality image. It's shown on PC this tech performed well. But even with DLSS, you'd need at least 2? 3 maybe 4TF of GPU processing? On a handheld if following the same design principles as the original Switch of having an APU inside the handheld unit.

With current 7nm tech, I don't think that would be enough to achieve 3 or 4TF, certainly capable of a half step to say 1 to 1.5TF at 10W. I think Nintendo would want to wait until 5nm. And if that were the case, I have to speculate at this point, it would probably be 2022-23 not 2021 before Nvidia could get this design to market.

Anyway I'm not completely ruling it out - it COULD happen if Nvidia line up all their ducks in a row and this 5nm design is for this brand new Tegra chip, but seems like a lot of things would have to go right, plus whether Nintendo would WANT a 4k handheld device in 2021. (The old one is still selling). Let me know in the comments what you think.
