Microsoft joins Epic Games in fight against Apple. UPDATE on Apple's ban on Fortnite/Unreal Engine.
It takes COURAGE to charge a 30% app store fee.
This is the ongoing story regarding Epic Games fighting against the standard 30% app store fee on the Apple app store. Last week Apple banned Epic after Epic purposely tried to circumvent the App Store Guidelines by offering an option to users to pay Epic directly (bypassing Apple). Epic got kicked out, they made a fuss and a funny fortnite ad and legal battles ensued.
This video carries on from this point - Microsoft has now stood up to support Epic Games so Epic and its partners still have the tools needed to develop games on the Unreal Engine for the Apple App Store. Apple is hitting Epic on its revenue streams - the Unreal Engine and the revenue streams of Epic's Partners, ie Microsoft who use the Unreal Engine.
There's also news of other companies asking for a 15% app store fee, instead of the 30%, which Amazon currently was able to negotiate. And Apple also decided to revoke its ban of the Wordpress app after the Wordpress team complied with Apple on its app store guidelines.
