Could this be STREET FIGHTER VR?! New Quest 2 game made me SWEAT! // Quest 2 Gameplay
343Just last week I checked out Dragon Fist VR, a new VR game that feels like a wonky (but genuinely super fun) VR version of Mortal Kombat, and now this week another new VR fighting game has emerged, this time we're looking at Virtual Fighting Championship for the Quest 2 and this one pulls BIG inspiration from Street Fighter! From the character artwork to the stage designs & obviously the games logo the comparisons to Street Fighter are immediately glaring but is finally our Street Fighter VR equivalent or does Thrill of the Fight still hold the Quest 2 fighting game crown? Well today I jumped into just over an hours worth of VR gameplay action and came away sweaty, exhausted and hopeful that this can grow into a great new VR game... however right now some tracking issues, an unattractive lobby area/HUB area & a lack of feedback for certain hits landing holds this one back somewhat.
It's clear that the team behind Virtual Fighting Championship want to create an engaging and enjoyable VR fighting game for the Quest platform and right now they have a pretty solid foundation. Some great character art & animations paired with a full blown campaign mode & genuine fitness functionality really make me think this one will grow into a game worth owning in time. Learning exactly when and where to hit your opponents is half the battle here, to stop fights from devolving into an endless slap fest you need to mix it up, straight shots followed by hooks and uppercuts, head shots mixed in with body shots, it's a constant balancing act & it's essential if you want to walk away victorious. The strangest thing about this new Quest 2 game is the fact you need to create an account in game to save your progress... nothing saves to the Quest 2 unless you've set up and logged into an account... very odd!
Thrill of the Fight is still the best VR fighting game on Quest 2 but Virtual Fighting Championship has the potential to grow into something very exciting indeed!
