Developed by Apex Computer Productions and published by Thalamus in 1992

So, here we have the sequel to one of the best games on the C64. I'm afraid that I only ever played a demo level on a magazine cover tape as I'd moved on to the Amiga by the time this was released. By 1992, the C64 was in decline, but John and Steve Rowlands proved that there was still life in the old beast yet.

The game features Clyde Radcliffe once again, this time on a mission to save his children from the same demons that caused him so much trouble in the first game. Gone are the platforming sections from the original game having been replaced with 3 distinct level types:

* Torture screens - as per the original, Clyde must work out the solution to save a Fuzzy in distress.

* Interludes - a bonus game where you must catch Fuzzies on a trampoline and catapult them to safety.

* Demon Screens - Clyde must kill 3 demons from the same family, each significantly larger than the next. This involves avoiding the enemy shot pattern and kicking bugs into a launching device to hit the demon.

I think Apex made a good choice by not repeating the same style as the first game, which helps keeps things fresh. The graphics are even better than the original and the music is of the usual high quality to be expected from Steve Rowlands.

I noticed that the game uses a much bigger playing field than any other title I've seen; most C64 games it was quite noticeable whilst cropping the video as the vertical resolution is considerably larger than other games (for comparison, the original Creatures was 215 pixels high when cropped whilst Creatures 2 was 257 pixels high)

Hats off to the developers for managing to produce another excellent title.

Enjoy!
