The N7 Crusader is a shotgun in Mass Effect 3 and Mass Effect: Andromeda.
Due to its peculiarities it can hardly be referred to as a shotgun. Yes, it is extremely heavy but at the same time it has just amazing accuracy and more than decent damage. The most ironic thing about this gun is that it acts a lot better at middle range and long range distances than in close combats. Instead of a spray of pellets, the Crusader fires a single, high-precision slug which is capable of piercing through thin materials. If you are a good shooter you definitely need to know that headshots made from this gun are extremely lethal. N7 Crusader has a very high rate of fire but a large amount of vertical recoil is produced after each shot which means you are going to have some troubles controlling the gun after each next shot.
In the Legendary Edition it is available from the Spectre Requisitions terminal in the Citadel Embassies for a base amount of 125,000 credits.
- The slug the Crusader shoots is capable of piercing through thin materials, similar to the Javelin and M-98 Widow.
- The Crusader has a spread of 0 with the single slug going straight to the center of the crosshair, making the Shotgun Smart Choke mod redundant.
- Firing the Crusader from the hip sacrifices very little, if any, accuracy.
- The Crusader's damage-per-shot is on par with weapons like the M-99 Saber or M-92 Mantis; unfortunately, it is far heavier than either, and one of the heaviest weapons in the game. Only a Soldier with a weight capacity of 100 can carry the Crusader without power recharge penalties, and even then the weapon must be high level and modded with Shotgun Ultralight Materials.
- The Crusader has a high rate of fire for a shotgun as well as a very fast reload, however a large amount of vertical recoil is produced after each shot, which will cause rapidly-fired shots to miss unless at close range if not compensated for.
- Because all of the damage is placed into a single slug projectile, and not multiple lower-damage pellets, the Crusader is more effective against armored targets when compared to other shotguns. However, this same property does mean it is more hampered by enemy shield gates, especially on higher difficulties.
- Unlike most shotguns, equipping the Crusader on a squadmate will prompt that character to keep their distance from the enemy instead of closing in. As squadmates are not affected by weapon weight, the Crusader's high damage makes it a natural choice for them.
