Crypt Killer Game Sample - Playstation

This is a very under-the-radar light-gun shooter that was released for the Playstation and Sega Saturn in 1997 and is based off of the 1995 arcade game of the same name. This game is known as "Henry Explorers" in Japan. It is almost universally panned and considered a terrible game, but there is more to this game than meets the eye. It's pretty rare that I go against mounting criticism about a game that is widely considered terrible (as opposed to being good), but this is one of those exceptions.
You're an explorer who goes to various locations searching for treasure and the legendary "Eyes of Guidance" and kill hordes of enemies and evade traps along the way. While the game is called a horror game, you may discover through extensive playing that the game fortunately doesn't take itself very seriously, as there are numerous endings (from bizarre to mysterious), branching paths, and cheesy B-Movie dialogue. The biggest problem with this game would be the difficulty, which is admittedly very steep, especially if you're playing alone. Also, the constant flashing from your gun can be dazzling to say the least (watch out for epilepsy).
Had this game been released back in 1995, the graphics would've been sufficient, but they do seem a little bland when compared to other light-gun games on the Playstation. The background effects and some things still look pretty nice, but some enemies just look downright awful. To its credit, the game still has a (mostly) great soundtrack and two player co-op. If you're lucky, you can also get a lot of help by obtaining the coveted "Konami Logo", which maxes out your lives, your screen-obliterating bombs, and gives you a gatling gun. This game isn't so bad, but it is hard, and it's not revolutionary. Enjoy.
