A good example, the best for me, was presented this year: the JingOS that can already be tested and that will be installed by default on the JingPad A1.
Recently, much has been said about CutefishOS and CDE.
The project is very new, so much so that their forum is empty and they do not give much information about it on the website. If we go to Twitter , we can see that it exists and the CDE can now be installed on Arch Linux, which is the desktop that the CutefishOS operating system will use.
At the moment, or at least I haven't found anything yet, they don't mention what they will be based on, but Manjaro has already released an “Unstable” version with CDE, and that's what you can see in the Video.
I was a little surprised to see the CDE interface. It is very similar to JingOS, which in turn is very similar to iPadOS.
Like JingOS, Cutefish created a group of applications that look good on your desktop, but it is so similar to what we saw in JingOS that, together with the little information you have provided, all are doubts. It is known to use some KDE software, such as KWin or Kate.
On the official website they say that it will offer an improved Linux experience and that it will be based on rock-solid Linux, but they don't say it anymore.
There it also says that:
“CutefishOS is based on the Linux kernel. Linux is more secure than other operating systems because its source code is open. Anyone can view it and check for bugs or backdoors. ”
Considering that Manjaro was the first to promote it, it is easy to think that it will be based on Manjaro or directly on Arch Linux, and more if we consider that the CDE is already in the Arch repositories.
At the moment CutefishOS is not available for download, but you can test the CDE in Manjaro Cutefish, something I am doing now in GNOME Boxes and I can only say that it is very fast.
To find out more details we will have to wait for the developer team to provide more information.

CutefishOS: Cutefish Desktop Environment
As you might’ve read already, CutefishOS is based on Manjaro Linux fueled by its in-house desktop environment called Cutefish Desktop Environment (CDE). It looks similar to JingOS made for tablets and computers with touch input and JingPad A1 that we covered before.
Design-wise, the OS resembles macOS and iPad OS a lot. Heck! Even the PulseAudio sound control app has the Apple Music logo on it, with the only difference being a gear embedded in the logo. Well, it’s in the beta unstable state, and I think it’s too early to comment on anything at this point as everything is very unpolished.
CutefishOS also looks like a fork of CyberOS with just a different name.
The OS also has its own set of apps like Camera, Notes, Calculator, Files, etc., just like DDE (Deepin Desktop Environment), and we hope this list will grow as the OS takes shape with further development.
You can download CutefishOS from here.
Who Is This For?
It is for people who like Manjaro Linux and macOS’s theming. This isn’t stable, but you install DDE on Manjaro if you’re really into macOS-like theming. If you’re interested, check this guide out from the people at over Manjaro, or you can try CyberOS, which is also an Arch-based distro.
