Inkscape 1.1 was launched with a rewritten docking system and more. Check out what's new and see how to install on Linux.
Inkscape is a quality SVG editor that runs on Linux, Mac and Windows systems and can be used to create or edit vector graphics like logos, diagrams, illustrations, graphics and anything in between.
Inkscape has sophisticated drawing tools with features comparable to Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW and Xara treme. You can import and export various file formats, including SVG, AI, EPS, PDF, PS and PNG.
It has a complete set of features, a simple interface, multilingual support and is designed to be extensible, users can customize the functionality of Inkscape with plug-ins.
The editor provides flexible drawing tools and supports reading and saving images in SVG, OpenDocument Drawing, DXF, WMF, EMF, sk1, PDF, EPS, PostScript and PNG formats.
The free, open source vector graphics editor Inkscape has now been updated to version 1.1. Inkscape 1.1 arrives a year after the main release of Inkscape 1.0, which has been in development for over three years.
What's new in Inkscape 1.1 ::
Inkscape 1.1 includes a welcome dialog, a command palette, a rewritten docking system and much more.
With this release, the free and open source vector graphics editor introduced a new welcome screen, where you can choose the colors of the screen, the layout of the keyboard shortcuts and the theme (including light or dark mode), as well as quickly open an existing file or create a new one from templates:
Another new feature in Inkscape 1.1 is a command palette, which can be opened using? and allows you to search for various functions without using the menus or a keyboard shortcut:
Not all actions supported by Inkscape are available with the new command palette, but more actions are expected to be available in future versions of Inkscape.
Inkscape 1.1 also comes with a rewritten docking system, which solves many problems and allows docking dialogs on both sides of the screen. The dialogues are displayed as guides and, when they are opened, they become icons.
In addition, Inkscape now remembers your settings for all sessions.
More changes in Inkscape 1.1:
Preferences options are now easier to find using the new search field
It is now possible to copy, cut and paste parts of paths with the Node tool
New contour overlay mode that displays object outlines while showing their actual colors
It is no longer necessary to remember to click 'Export' in the Export to PNG dialog box, as the export will already take place after clicking 'Save' in the file selection dialog box
Export as JPG, TIFF, optimized PNG and WebP directly from Inkscape
When pasting a copied object, Inkscape now pastes it directly on top of the currently selected object by default
An extension for updating extensions and installing additional extensions, called Extension Manager, is now available (currently in beta)
Other changes in Inkscape 1.1:
Revamped docking system
Search bar in the preferences dialog
Improved zoom correction factor
New outline overlay mode
Copy/cut/paste selection of nodes
New ‘Scale’ option in pen/pencil tool
New selection mode for lasso/rubber band selection
New ‘slice’ path effect
Extensions manager (beta)
