Danger Express (Atari Games arcade prototype) gameplay
Danger Express
(Atari Games/arcade prototype)
A terrorist group led by "Blowfish" is attacking the nation's capital. Two agents, codenamed "Lightning" and "Thunder", have been assigned to terminate him. Danger Express was made on the Atari G42 hardware used by Road Riot 4WD and Guardians of the Hood. Graphics style is similar to Pit-Fighter with digitized sprites, but using an "into the screen" perspective instead of side-scroll. You have a duck button to evade thrown objects and a jump button to avoid rolling explosives. Falling off the train will instantly cost one life.
You fight off terrorists and also find various weapons like tonfa, guns, a plasma rifle, etc. A breakage bonus is awarded for damage to background objects.
Some stages will have a time bomb set by the enemy. If it goes off, you will have to restart the level.
Danger Express is playable from start to finish, but it is a little rough in places. The ending is just a screen of text. This video was made using the default MAME HLSL settings, with resolution set to 3840x2160 (4K).
