Dark Savior - Sega Saturn - Intro & opening ship gameplay for parallel 1 [720p 60fps]
Dark Savior is an isometric action adventure RPG that is a semi-sequel to Climax's previous games LandStalker and Lady Stalker. Roughly thirty minutes of footage that shows off the opening section of the game, how the game plays out totally depends on however quickly you can reach the captain's cabin and if you can stop the evil Bilan in time, causing the game to follow one of five different story parallels after that. This video shows the worst possible out come with Bilan escaping the ship which triggers the rather dark parallel 1 story.
Dark Savior really was a game that should have set the world alight with its unique and brilliant gameplay concept of branching story lines based on the out come of a single event. Sadly the failure of the SEGA Saturn stopped any chance of that and with the game never being ported to any other system it is somewhat forgotten by all, but hardcore Saturn fans.
It really is a must play game, even if parts of it fall into the good not great category. You play Garian a bounty hunter who has to escort the criminal Bilan to Jailer Island. What should be an easy ship journey turns into a nightmare as Bilan escapes and goes on a rampage dispatching anyone who gets in his way. You wake from a dream to find the carnage on the ship in full swing and soon discover that it's seems fate has cursed Garien and his escape from the island maybe far harder than you expect.
The ship scenes acts as a hub to decided which of one of five parallels the player will get. Technical the ship only decides four of them as parallel four happens directly after parallel three so the two really are one parallel. Parallel five is also little more than a mini-game acting as a battle arena to test your might against a number of opponents.
Where the game falls down is in two areas mainly, one is the odd Street Fighter II one on one style combat that locks you into a single movement plane isn't great. Secondary the parallels force you to replay the same area in the game over and over again, which does causes it to become repetitive towards the end. While there was never a parallel six, the game kind of follows a story order if you do parallel 1,2,3 and 4 in that order. Should you choose to start a new game after any parallels ending then Garien will again wake from his dream to find himself back on the ill fated ship.
