Map familiarity is probably one of an invader's biggest advantages that is commonly just talked about in terms of shortcuts and hiding places. When you're familiar with a level though you can generally see what's out of place to track where your target(s) have and have not been. Then as you gradually find things yourself or see others use them you can utilize the available paths for various purposes.

I've personally have had several instances where I've been able to navigate around a level section to catch hosts and phantoms a little off guard. This is particularly useful since it can be the difference of reacting to the situation instead of starting out from a neutral position that generally favors those standing at a chokepoint.
