While I almost always carry a dagger on my DS3 characters I generally try to only use it for deleting summons or finishing out a long fight. When you see me simply toggle to it that's probably because I figured it'd be best to not risk too much in doing something fancy (or I screwed up the menu input and am merely salvaging the riposte). Although landing the crit is a risky play merely toggling to a big damage weapon is just too reliable.
