Although I care very little about proper pvp techs that min/max viability something I do care about is pushing myself to trying progressively harder skills. This is why when it comes to parry swaps I generally care a lot more about swapping armor than equipment for a bigger damage output, it pushes my skills without being overly serious about it. One notable exception to this was in DSR where I became obsessed about doing a toggle to my dagger in addition to the swap because at the time I had doubts about landing a full armor swap but knew I could do more than just a 1 piece swap. It wasn't to maximize damage, it was to push a new goal onto myself.
