Dark Souls 3: You Cheated Not Only the Game, But Yourself (Raw Clip)
22There is no value in cheating death by disconnecting. You die, you lose an ember, drop some souls, and that's it. Nothing that isn't easily replaced is lost. When a player disconnects they're not saving anything of value, what they save by disconnecting is just an ember and some souls but what they lose is gameplay experience that they could *potentially* learn from.
For new players, especially those who disconnect:
Have you ever noticed that after you've died to an invader or killed an invader that you were not invaded for a very notable amount of time even if you returned to human form? That's because there is a cooldown timer to how often you can be invaded. When you're invaded that number was at zero and when you disconnect it will still be at zero. It is reset upon killing an invader or dying to an invader and some time is removed from it whenever you perform certain actions, in particular each summon removes a minute or two. Additionally, using the Dried Finger item sets it to 0 and generally keeps it at 0 until your next death. If you're not confident that you can win just keep fighting and you might potentially do so, if you just give up than you're not improving.
