114The Moonlight Butterfly in the Darkroot Garden is actually an optional boss all things considered. The only reason you need to fight it is to get the key to the tower that connects the Undead Burg to the Darkroot Basin. And because your character has an insatiable lust for accruing souls.
As long as you don't fight the butterfly mano-a-mano, you'll find this boss to be a rather simple affair. It only has a few attacks that can be easily dodged and you can even summon a very powerful NPC if you do not have any ranged attacks.
