DCS Mi-24P Hind Full CAP PvP Sortie (1 Apache Longbow PvP Kill) Boring!
0:00 Start
17:40 Combat Against Apache
Flew on a PvP server in DCS with one thing on my mind: to shoot down a player-flown AH-64D Apache with the Mi-24P Hind. I bagged one Apache, LOL. It was with an old Ataka air-to-air missile which was originally an anti-tank missile sloppily converted into an air-to-air missile while retaining the same sloppy TV guided warhead. The missile was steered manually by the human gunner visually with the Hind's TV sensor, LOL. The Apache pilot never saw me coming.
Couldn't find any other Apache, so I headed for home. Was heavy still, so I did a roll-on landing, but my speed was a bit too high. Landed OK, but it was not a cool landing.
The good thing about the sloppy Ataka air-to-air missile that's effective only against other helicopters is that despite the acquisition process taking a long time, once enroute, the missile is impervious to both flare and chaff countermeasures. The Apache pilot heard his missile approach warning system blaring, and he popped flares, but it was of no use. The missile was steered manually with a TV sensor onboard the Hind which guidance was relayed by radio frequency. There goes one very expensive gunship, LOL. A new Mi-35 Hind costs 35 million USD. A new Apache Longbow costs between 90 and 100 million USD. The price of a new F-35A Lightning II (air force variant) is 89 million USD, LOL. The cost of the new AH-64E Guardian is 140 million USD.
The take off is a little funny since one of the stabilization channels was switched off, somehow. Had to switch it on, again.
I died once prior because while taking off, the game froze due to a severe lag and then somehow my Hind crashed. It was not because I was downed.
