Deadly Premonition (PS3) - mission overlaps in Chapter 12 pt. 3
5This video shows a rare quadruple mission overlap and its peculiar outcome.
0:21 - as you'd expect, the cutscene itself is full of redundant line repetition and other strangeness.
2:44 - once the tailing section begins, York's car is stuck somewhere far out of bounds. You can't really see what's going on since the camera is still focused on the tailing sequence.
3:07 - as usual, a few minutes later Sigourney breaks you free. However, unlike most other times when York ended up in a car break-out like this, afterwards I didn't get the tailing failure cutscene that teleports York back to the PD and fixes everything. Instead, York's car stayed out of bounds, although it did lose its anti-gravity property and fell down.
3:44 - after respawning, the game is in a confused state where it's still partially inside the tailing sequence. Nick is highlighted, as if he was a target who you still need to continue tailing. Emily and Thomas continue being your passengers (and they'll stay in your car until you switch maps).
4:11 - I drive to Nick's location. Now that the tailing sequence has ended abruptly, he has no idea where to go. You can't fail the already failed tailing sequence again. The game has no other present target or time limit or anything else you must accomplish, so there's a chance it's unwinnable at this point, at least without using the Chapter 12 skip.
4:36 - If you save & reload, Nick is faring even less well. Now he is aimlessly sitting on thin air (as if inside a vehicle) in the rain.
5:03 - I also noticed George remains standby at the Gallery, and he will stay there forever because of the game's confused state.
(Not on the vid: you can try free roaming in this unusual scenario. Besides the aforementioned changes, it's permanently raining and not many places will be open.)
