Deadly Premonition (PS3) - skip Chapter 10... almost
5I devised an elaborate scheme to enter the final room in Chapter 10 ahead of time, but sadly, actually completing the level seems impossible. Be mindful that there are some spoilers for Episode 2 here.
0:00 - The video begins with me already having started Sigourney break-out. Or maybe a more apt name for it would be "cold pot break-out"?
Using Sigourney, I set up peek break-out behind Becky's House by examining the window shortly after she yells "stop the car!". Pressing Pause during Sigourney's yell skips the whole Sigourney cutscene, gives you better control over the timing of the break-out and also slightly speeds up the set up, so this can be useful to know.
0:33 - After this, I have to set up another Sigourney break-out. There's a chance you have to sleep overnight or at the very least change maps to respawn Sigourney. However, changing maps is not an option at the moment since peek break-out is active; this would just crash the game.
0:58 - An entirely reliable way to setup Sigourney break-out from Chapter 7 onward is to purchase the Psychic Map and then drive Sigourney to the Psychic Spot A. Her pot seems to react mysteriously to the haunted energies of the Psychic Spot, thus starting this devastating glitch.
1:51 - Sigourney break-out is fixed if you change maps. However, the Chapter 9 to Chapter 10 loading screen doesn't feature a map change, and thus York gets to keep Sigourney break-out into Chapter 10!
(To note, you can take other lingering effects like binoculars-menu into Chapter 10 as well. More about that in some future video, perhaps?)
2:13 - While waiting for Sigourney's pot to turn cold, I drive to a nearby outdoors sleeping location since York has to sleep for a few hours soon. I need the game world to be past 0:00, and I can't just smoke to pass the time because in Chapter 10 the deadline cutscene at 23:30 will flat out kill York. The only way to pass the deadline safely is to either not be in the overworld at that time, or alternatively, sleep past it.
3:01 - As promised, within a few minutes Sigourney gives such a stern lecture to York that all of his life priorities are rearranged and he realizes there's no need to rush to Becky's House after all. You normally can't even leave your car in this Chapter, but thanks to Sigourney break-out, free roam is now a (limited) possibility in Chapter 10.
4:14 - The final step in this plan is to break into Becky's House using an enemy. Stepping into the mission circle is not an option because it sends York to the otherworld Becky's House, which is not the same map as regular Becky's House, and as a result of peek break-out, this will crash the game shortly afterwards.
Using the door from 22:00 to 23:29 starts the story-related cutscenes in the same way as if you'd just walked into the mission circle. However, at any other time of the day, it's just a normal locked door with a short animation. If this wasn't the case, then this final step in this trick wouldn't be possible.
4:33 - And so, York clambers into Becky's bedroom through the window and turns invisible as a side effect of peek break-out. Funnily enough, Thomas and Quint are already in there hanging out with Becky, who seems perfectly alive and well so far.
Now, if you entered Becky's bathroom with peek break-out in the previous Chapters, the key to the safe would be just lying around. But for some reason this isn't the case in Chapter 10; here the bathroom is just... empty. No blood and gore, no nothing. It's unfortunate that precisely in this one Chapter where you could almost certainly do a full Becky's House skip if you could just open the safe, that important key item is missing...!
On the other hand, even if this skip had worked, it wouldn't really have saved any time since the setup is so lengthy and elaborate.
