Aside from Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood in December, the last full-priced console title I bought was actually Rockstar's last game Red Dead Redemption way back in the first half of last year, so it's only fitting that my first big console game investment of 2011 ended up being Rockstar/Team Bondi's ambitious adventure game LA Noire.

So far I've only played the first 10 cases in the game but despite a few flaws I really appreciate this unique, atmospheric and surprisingly well-written take on the genre. LA Noire thankfully has none of the silly pixel-hunting and McGyver-esque item combinations that I normally dislike about these types of games, and the interviews with suspects somehow manage to be just as tense and satisfying as any action game set piece.
