Demon: the Fallen - Defiler Lores - Lore and Visage of Transfiguration
In this episode we're taking a look at one of the Lores of the Fifth House, the Lore of Transfiguration, which allows Defilers to alter their own shape or the shape of those around them, turning a subject into an icon of beauty and desire, just as well as they might deform said subject into a hideous monster, shunned by everyone. The Oceanites can use certain evocations to temporarily mimic others and to embody an individual's desires or greatest fears. Because the body actually changes when this power is used, other Fallen can easily fall for the disguise.
The descriptions of each dot/evocation and apocalyptic form features are read from the Core Rulebook, which you can find right here: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/636/Demon-The-Fallen
Ah, I love this Lore mainly because I am a huuuuge fan of shapeshifting powers, but I feel like some evocations could have definitely used more precise descriptions for both narrative and mechanical effects, and, indeed, a wider range of applications.
The first dot, Mimic, doesn't just trick the "distant observer", like the description states, but works on anyone who isn't perceptive enough - as per "System" section. Why does Alter Appearance only affect coloration/pigmentation? Why does Alter Shape only affect height, weight and shoulder width but not other (smaller) body parameters? Maybe I'm just a greedy shapeshifter fan, but I really feel like some of the evocations don't do enough to allow for meaningful and impactful interactions, so... yeah, I guess this one could have been better :D
Enjoy!
