If I seem a bit down about doing the stream this time around, it's just because out of everything I'm playing right now, GoW2 just feels like it's the lowest priority. While I've already gone on record about how much enjoyment I've been able to derive out of the Trails in the Sky games -- which has honestly jumped exponentially, considering SC's stellar pacing compared to the first game -- the fact that my "spare" gaming time is currently being devoted to Neon White, a game which might actually be my first 10/10 of 2022, isn't really helping matters either. GoW2 isn't really bad by any stretch of the imagination, but the fact is, I'd literally rather be playing anything else on my docket right now. I guess you could say it's like the opposite of "damned by faint praise". If a term for that actually exists, let me know in the comments. I'm honestly curious about that.
Like I said last time, I can't tell if I'm having more fun with the second God of War over the original because I decided not to be a tryhard and just played the game on Normal difficulty... or if it's actually just due to the various refinements and quality of life updates everyone's come to expect in any worthwhile sequel. I guess I really shouldn't care either way.
One section that did tick me off was that mini-boss fight with... what appeared to be a Cerberus? It was at least a three-headed canine, whatever it was. I ended up getting my first "Does Mama's widdle man wanna dwop down to EASY MODE, wike the dumb widdle baby he is?" prompt while trying to beat that one. I've always hated that crap, personally. It just feels so condescending. I think that just allowing players to shift difficulty settings on the fly is a way better solution to that issue than just outright shaming people for dying in the same section 3 or 4 times.
According to the GameFAQs guide I've been using as a pseudo-roadmap, I've apparently made it through 10 of the 20 sections that walkthrough has separated them into, and even made a little headway into #11. By KI's measure, I'm not quite at the halfway mark yet: he says I need to take down the fifth "actual" boss to hit that milestone. That just strikes me as kind of ironic. I was hoping to tackle this game in roughly four streams, but I guess it wouldn't break my heart if it took a fifth.
...well, actually, looking at my current schedule, a fifth session would mean not being able to feed my Thursday night slot to BtLO. That *would* actually be kind of heart-breaking, now that I think about it...
