DFFOO [JP] 3 Targets vs Minwu w/ FR board (ft. Ace/Aerith)
Just a quick one for reworked Minwu with FE50 and FR board. I paired him with Ace for some combo potential while not absolutely nuking the crap out of these low HP 3 target bosses.
Regarding Minwu:
Minwu is functionally the same as before. His trap triggers the same amount of times and there is no big change to how his skills work.
The biggest changes are his traps and trap refresh getting some HP hit bumps. The normal Holy XVIs are now 2 dumps, while the trap refresh is 5. So even when you are up against a 2 target stage, you can potentially get up to (2 hits x2 triggers x2 targets + 5 as refresh) 13 HP hits on an active turn when you trigger the traps. For 3 targets, you can get up to (2 hits x 2 triggers x 3 targets + 5x2 refresh (possibe if you start at 4)) 22 hits. It is a lot more dmg than before.
Devs has finally given his BT the normal 30% party HP dmg cap up and a bit of HP dmg up attached to his buffs.
That said, his flaws are still here. Arguably his FR echo exacerbated his shortcoming of having a 6T BT. With that echo being an instant turn rate non-attack move, typically you would exhaust their use consecutively to pad the HP bonus %. If you use his FR after his BT. it means you will have 3T left after passing his turns. I would prefer them to give him another 2T on his BT, but that didn't happen. It is what it is, you will have to deal with it.
Another flaw that remains is he still have a lot of split HP dmg moves. The extra bit of HP dmg up helps but not by much. It may not be that noticeable on 2 targets, but on 3, you will need some significant support/CAs to even just get close to dealing "full" HP dmg to all 3 targets. His trap refresh is the biggest offender of this,
I will say there has been a surge of off-turn units that depend on enemies to get turns lately and there are still a sizable amount of similar characters that haven't got their fair share yet. So it probably isn't that hard to find better partners for Minwu. That said, until there is true Holy enchant, you may have to look at the elemental compatibility issues, or stick to using someone that has an element that can be true enchanted.
Amidst these changes. the HP hit changes are certainly one of the highlights (sorry Ace, you came out too early, you are still a good triggerman though), but I would say Minwu getting echo may be more important for him. Now you can have a big head start before even waiting for the traps to get triggered. If you have Aerith/Penelo or Arciela in particular, you can double down on this strat and start at 400+%.
Also there are more options than when he came out for special strats. You have people like Arciela, Enna Kros and Weiss who can provide either extra proportional HP dmg or increase your caps by a large margin, so you can just sit there and watch the big dmg comes. You can also use Rem for continuous EX laser spam for maximum active trap triggers. Reno's team delay is an asset to prolong your enemies' suffering. There are just a lot more favourable combos for off-turn dmg dealers than before.
Pity, that Holy/meteor at the end left them with the mythical magic pixel.
