DFFOO [JP][Faris IW] Greg returns while Kelger shuts down the boss
14Faris is looking quite insane, but the no lucky BT streak continues. Maybe I will token it later, but for now I would like to hold on to that and see what's in September. Ramza and Agrias are also coming back soon, so kinda wants to see if some gems can be saved for that.
I got Greg's FR for free though and since I already got his BT+3 a long time ago, here is a weird strat with Gilgamesh.
If you swap out Kelger, Enna and puts in Snow and Yda instead, it actually clears the crystal mission and finishes the quest faster as Yda is just ridiculous.
Boss:
20/70%: "Getting Angry"
* This event gives them several framed buffs, including the "Anger" buff. That heals them for 100% HP dmg dealt to them (not even at the end of turn, immediately)
10/80%: BRV dmg up
FA: (guaranteed hit melee AOE BRV+HP)
FT: 20T
- all BRV dmg dealt will be equal to the boss BRV cap (rainbow numbers)
* they are still susceptible to nullification and absorption
Weakness:
FA that either:
- deals water BRV dmg and inflict more than 2 debuffs; or
- deals BRV dmg while delaying all targets by 1T
No notable HP threshold events.
General Strat:
The boss is pretty much a pushover. As far as I can tell, the only time the boss does an AOE is when it uses its FA. Even then, that can either be pushed aside with a simple shield CA or just facetanking it and regen later.
The notable thing is the boss only uses ST attacks and they are all dodgeable. So if you have someone like Cater/Kelger, after taking care of the
FA, you can just let them finish the boss and call it a day. Obviously you can choose to delay them indefinitely, stop them from attacking altogether or counter them to death.
How this run was setup:
As usual I would preface this by saying you can obviously solo this boss. Though I have also said many times, I found using a evasion/counter unit for solo is boring and utterly braindead, so I don't do that. If you want to, it is perfectly viable.
I want to use Gilgamesh and Kelger at the same time, but mechanically they are opposed (Gilgamesh EX/FR delays the boss). I also haven't tried Enna + Kelger before (I think), and Enna deleting turns also works against Kelger. So I tuned the team with crystal passive in a specific way to make this work.
Since I have already completed the white room, Enna has access to both D3/D6. She will be the one using FR and then take a backseat, while Kelger with D3 also have a similar function. Enna's cap up buff will work without her getting turns, while Kelger will continue to preempte/counter strike the bosses.
Enna FR is used as opposed to Greg's because hers is compatible with Kelger and it gives 10% more. They both have 50% cap up and as you can see near the end, Kelger got to 400K and Gilgamesh got 500K. That's the factor that decide Kelger's FR is not used here.
Though that also means there is no off-turn bonus. This is where Gilgamesh comes in. He would be the one that either use his HP+ to accelerate the HP bonus accumulation prior to Kelger's off-turn, either through his consecutive turns alone or King's sword to bring in the entire team to build the bonus together. You don't actually see a lot of Kelger off-turns in this run, but by the time they happen, they are already very destructive at a higher %.
A similar thing can be done with Gilgamesh + Snow, arguably that makes more sense because Snow needs his own turn to do his preemptive+. I have tried that, and it works well too.
Through putting D3/D6 on two of the members that you don't want turns for, you can use Gilgamesh in this way to build bonus if you are using an active FR or more "active-friendly" team. The first clear I did was with Cor instead of Enna, and that worked as well because Cor works with both on and off-turn actions.
Regarding Gilgamesh:
I would say he is pretty usable now. FFV has 9 characters, 3 of which are still MIA and Bartz does not exactly serve a great deal of purpose (Rarely I feel this, but I find him very boring in this game). So your choices are rather limited. If you are like me who doesn't have Faris/Lenna, well at least I can still make a V team (who knows what comes after Spiritus Odin for summons).
Skill wise, all of them got a pretty big bump. He is mostly a 8-10 dump character now, though his HP+ only does 5 and are still random. Curiously though, King's sword actually got an extra utility of offering +20% recast up for all party members. So for someone like Kelger and Weiss whose starting EX buff falls of REALLY easily, it is actually not a bad idea to try fishing a proc to help them recast EX earlier.
Gilgamesh cap ups:
His BT still gives 30% party cap up at IV stacks, but it also gives himself 50% additional self cap up. Also, his LD buff now gives him an extra 20%. Combined with his FR giving 50%, he can actually have a 150% self cap up without counting FE/HA/UW. As you can see, Gilgamesh can reach 500K at the end without a special buffer like Ursula.
