DFFOO [JP][Act 4 Chpater 7 Part 2] Edge in 2023: Roasting the Clown with Ignis, Yuna FR, Relm friend
Someone wants to see Edge and it is very quite doable, so here it is.
I have tried 3-4 different comps with Edge while restricting to use of Rydia/Faris (not that I have them on this account, but excluding them as friend as well), Astos/Rufus. They all work, but the amount of time varies depending on how much you lean towards an off-turn approach. Ignis + Yuna w/ Edge is more a hybrid if anything.
The comps I tried are:
Reno + Yuna + Edge (both Yuna/Reno FR works, Edge is partly lightning)
Reno + Minwu + Edge (Reno FR works a bit better, but both have partial compatibility only)
Cor + Quina + Edge (Cor FR)
Most of these take around 19+ mins with a lot of waiting for off-turn. The comps with Reno is heavily dependent on delaying your own teams to get more off-turn going, but since Kefka is not using melee attacks, Reno FR only gives you partial enemy turn bonuses.
The Minwu one is even more painful as Minwu BT is the last BT that does not come with HP dmg cap up for the team. So the team is mostly relying on quantity of off-turns to compensate for the relative lack of power of each one. If it is not edge but Kelger, then the situation would be vastly different and that's how I finished the crystal mission for this quest (all red crystal - Minwu/Reno/Kelger).
They all can shave the boss to about 20-30%. You can take care of the rest with retention or fire off one last crystal ability before ending the FT. Wait it out or burst it down, it is entirely up to you.
Edge here is decent despite being last updated near the end of Lufenia+. He has the ST lock, and his EX provide party wide evasion buffs. Therefore other than the initial Vayne FA, you can dodge pretty much everything including Kefka's threshold AOEs.
That being said, he needs to use his S2 to lock enemies periodically and his counters come in phases. It is not always 4 AOE HP attacks. You either need some more on-turn firepower or extra off-turn attacks from someone else.
Just like a lot of "I need you to hit me" characters, the cast with enemy triggered off-turn attacks that are compatible are more limited when the bosses are mostly doing ST attacks and quite a lot of characters are awaiting reworks/FR. The most recent ones are Rydia/Faris ofc. Further away, you have Cor/Quina. Minwu and Leon are coming, so hopefully others like Machina/Yang/Trey/EMP/Firion etc can get something soon as well.
On a side note, Relm as a friend unit is actually not too bad. You have to pre plan the position where you want her to be. Because of her unique positional BT effects, if you want someone to take a turn after the enemy moves, you should put said person on her right. If you want them to have a bigger cap up, put them on the left.
She also warps turns when enemy gets a turn, so it was perfect in this run when she could come in and BT just before Kefka and Vayne both had a turn. She could consecutively use all of her FRs without wasting FT and pushing the enemy before Ignis came in and finished the job.
Ngl, I was quite pleased with this friend use in this situation.
This could be done without the friend use of course, it just takes two more minutes of retention fighting while waiting for Edge to counter them.
