DFFOO [JP][Edge IW][Alt Run] Lightning has AoE dmg, delay and turn hog with Vayne/Laguna BT
After the orb is fixed and I remembered that Lightning has AoE lightning dmg now, so I put her alongside Vayne for a more delay + turn hog run. It turned out much better than I expected actually.
My Lightning is HA only with no BT. I did a completed run without Laguna friend when she was without bloom token lol, so this time I ran her with a Laguna friend and token instead.
Also I haven't played C90 Lightning for a long time, so I may not be doing all the optimal things, but sometimes it is a deliberate choice.
It is perfectly doable without Laguna friend, it can be completed at around the turn 33 mark. Still very turn efficient considering the limit is 45.
Things to note:
Because of the mechanic where the main boss would cleanse, attack and resummon when all adds are dead before it:
1. I actually throttled her turn hogging at some point.
Most prominent example is when the Bahamut summon happened and I could have let her start the phase and have 3 free EX in a row, turn hog all of the summon turns, but there is the risk of Laguna BT explosion killing the left CPU before the middle one so I stopped her there and let Vayne took over.
2. 3 turn Laguna is easier than a 5 turn one
Too much AoE would destroy the balance of the HP% between the adds. Most likely the main boss would have too much HP left and the left one if given a turn would heal it for 10% every time it moves, which prompts you to delay it with Lightning / Vayne and ended up killing it way too fast.
It is hard to find a non-friend one at times so I ended up spamming C88 to get Vayne back as soon as possible. Vayne's BT ST HP dump follow-up is the key to fixing their HP values.
If all things failed at the end, I would just burst with Vayne and finish the main boss when the left add is almost dead since boss cannot do its mechanic during summon/BT.
3. It is fine to Let C move to heal A
Keeping A alive as long as possible means less turn management for both B and C. With a Rydia LDCA you can brain dead delay B as long as possible and just dodge A's attack. Typically A should die before it can hit you for the third time and consuming all stacks. In a Laguna-less environment though, some turns may have to be spared to delay it or kill it faster than usual.
4. Vayne should move less than usual
Most of Vayne's attacks are ST, with consecutive turns the orb drops quite a bit. So letting Lightning pull the off-turn dmg trigger and exploit his BT duration is more preferable in this case. Her splash dmg with Garnet and Laguna BT effect should keep the orb from dropping.
Lightning may not have the most dmg these days but she is still a queen for triggering all kinds of follow-ups and off-turn dmg. She is still very potent with certain character compositions.
You probably won't bring her to beefy bosses such as Divine Bahamut or Transcendence 9, but she is still able to get the job done in more tamed fights. With BT she should go even further beyond that.
Ngl, it is really fun to see all the off-turn dmg going off like fireworks.
