DFFOO [JP][Spiritus Shiva][ticket run] Cid Raines's flight of ignore defence with Edgar FR and Cor
Even by my level of tolerance, I actually find this fight rather annoying than hard lol.
Fight is obviously designed around Edgar. It has a lot of ignore defence, attack type weakness shenanigans. I tried Edgar LD only for the ticket run, I got pretty close with Squall and Aerith actually, but Squall lost steam at the last threshold with the increased defence. So I went with Cid Raines instead with all those ignore defence post-launch punches instead.
1 FT-ing this is rather tricky but doable. Ticket run is honestly not that hard though if you don't mind 2 FT, since it only requires A rank with Edgar in the party, and A rank gives you 80T as requirement. You can just wait it out even when they go into FT for 20T. (When I got them to around 5% with LD Edgar/Squall/Aerith, I was at around T13. so ample amount of time)
Boss:
+4%: player action
0%: 80% elemental BRV dmg reduction outside of Water/Ice
FA: Hopeless Rain++ (if more than 1 attack type weakness)/+++
AOE magic BRV + HP
guaranteed hit, ignore BRV/HP dmg reduction or nullification
+++ version would randomly petrify one character
FT: 20T
- 2m healing before action
- player mBRV down (so drastic that most likely you would stay at 0 mBRV)
- pauses player recast gauge
Weakness: (cancel FT)
FA (unspecified type) that deals ignore defence BRV dmg
Note: Funny enough, Cid Raines FA can cancel this FT, even though the ignore defence part comes from his follow-up (both BT-less or with BT).
So consider using Cid if you don't have Edgar.
Thresholds:
Mainly three sets of threshold mechanics:
A. Petrification
QS/60/30%: Ice Impact+
- 1T Petrifying BRV attack on random ST (disregards targeting)
B. "Roar"/"Roar+" with aura
(threshold end means the effect and its aura is dispelled)
90-70%: Roar
(boss gets a HP dmg taken up at 70% when effect is dispelled)
50-30%/20%: Roar+
Roar gives the boss a coloured aura with different levels:
1 (White): no effect
2 (Blue): min 1 HP
3 (Yellow): min 1 HP & BRV shield
4 (Red): min 1 HP, BRV shield and additional HP dmg when dealing HP dmg
Roar initiate the aura at lv 4:
+1: Boss action
-1: Ignore DEF attack that hits one of the type weakness
Roar+ is qute similar, but additionally the red aura turns "sword tail" (target ALL) attack into an instant kill move (Hopeless Rain).
Also, the conditions for aura level change is different:
+1: Boss action
+1: Player action when there is a character with a special effect that has 5 or above levels
-1: Ignore DEF while the boss has all 3 type weakness
20%: Increasing DEF
- increase DEF (drastically)
- 90% BRV gain reduction
C. Threshold locks
The boss locks its HP until threshold events have successfully been carried out.
These thresholds are: 89/69/49/19% in accordance with the roar/roar+ mechanics.
General Strat:
Quite an annoying fight as stated. The +4% FG charge was actually the main cause of trouble before I used Edgar FR/Cid FR. As the boss FT comes with a silly mBRV down that effectively makes you deal no dmg.
After using Edgar/Cid FR as a way to cancel their FT, this has become pretty much a non-issue.
What comes next is the delicate balance between hitting thresholds, cancelling aura and managing the final stage of the DPS race.
Up until the 20% mark, the fight is quite standard Shinryu if you take a proactive BT phase approach instead of waiting for off-turn to happen. The main thing is the HP threshold locks. Having high raw dmg is good, but more effective use for hitting those thresholds without overflow and wasted move is vital. If you know one is about to get locked, just some collateral dmg from AOE would suffice. It is exceptionally obvious when launches are involved. The red aura or the shield in this stage is usually not a big deal unless you let them move.
The most tricky part is actually how you deal with the post 20% phase. This phase comes with a new Roar+ (that has a BRV shield), hightened DEF and BRV gain reduction. Also it is at a point that you have to worry about lowering the aura to lv 1 so you can actually kill them under the new conditions. Some suggestions or exp:
Dealing dmg:
1. Ignore defence
- Edgar is the easy way out, I don't have his BT so naturally I can't use him for BT phase.
- Cid's follow-up ignore defence, he can shave off most of the HP here.
- Cor's reaper's gale has rainbow dmg, so he doesn't care.
2. BRV gain/retention or scaling dmg
- Serah actually works really well with her refunds.
- Serah and Aerith has BRV refund moves
- Serah and Aerith BT follow ups scale with a specific parameter, so it is not affected by DEF/BRV gain reduction
Lowering aura level:
- Dump Cor's stacks early and after BT. Anyone with an effect that has lv5 or above is automatically +1 and it cancels out your efforts.
- spam Edgar's LD at the end (isntant turn rate)
- use Cid's follow-up (regardless of BT)
If you can deplete their HP to 1, you can deal with the aura outside of FT. Just remember not to give them a turn when red aura is up.
