DFFOO [JP] When a boss would like to use AOE and counter Cor and his own counter buddies
Just being a degenerate and using a counter/off-turn team on a boss that AOEs and AOE counters you, with Cor's newfound BT.
Context
The boss counters whenever you hit it with anything but fire. That's why I used Ashe LDCA. The two of them does this individually as they react to one attack.
The boss also forces a break with the counter.
The blue aura state has an additional hefty BRV dmg reduction, that's why you see lower BRV numbers on all characters.
Among the entire party, only Cor got to move once after FT is on before the boss died. All those preemptive strikes and counters absolutely decimated the boss during its first blue aura state (counter phase) that it almost went straight into the second counter phase without anyone moving.
Cor:
Breaks:
The forced break would successfully break the entire party, as Cor's Oath buff only protects allies from breaks caused by BRV attack.
Getting broken to deal dmg with 3 preemptive strike procs:
This break is actually beneficial to this setup, as it pushes the entire party back on the turn queue and let the bosses move instead. Cor does not react to these off-turn attacks (have no inherit targeting), so having the boss move would trigger the 3-fold preemptive strikes.
Potentially if the boss has recovered from a break when it starts a turn, 6 strikes would happen instead with no loss of debuff turns whatsoever. Breaking them "wrongly" at that point would also trap them temporarily in a loop. Similar effect can be achieved or stacked through Maria/Quina LDCA trap as well.
Incoming dmg control
The breaks would normally net the boss with a lot of BRV and cause a lot of HP dmg to the entire party. However, with Rubicante and his C88 and all party members having Cor's Oath buff on, the HP dmg become incredibly trivial and would be covered by Rubicante's off-turn sphere healing entirely.
The rest is up to Rubicante and Machina to counter all those counters.
More potential partners:
Characters with more than 1 counter:
Gau/Galuf/Yang etc. belongs to this group. For full AOE bosses, even Galuf would do well besides Rubicante as they would not have a conflict of interest regarding boss targeting.
Yang is technically quite similar to a Cor/Machina hybrid, because he hits anything back that attempts to move and would off-turn attack during other people's turns.
Then there are others like Edge/Gladio/Auron/Celes etc.
Minwu:
Minwu actually has a higher affinity mechanical affinity to Cor than Rubicante (at least I think so). The timing of the proc of his trap is more in line with Cor's attack (except it happens after a turn). They both don't trigger when a boss is doing something off-turn (unless it is a cleanse or debuff duration decrease) and they don't actually need the boss hitting them to trigger. This means they can work well together with a HP silence strat when Rubi would not.
I actually worked on a Paine/Minwu/Cor run trapping a boss in an AOE attack limbo before this one. That one actually requires a bit of stage knowledge (know when to stop the boss and force it to use AOE repeatedly), so I put this one up with a more obvious combo instead.
One thing to note though is that Minwu is one of the few people with BT in Shinryu era that does not have HP dmg cap up for the party. Though if you use Minwu's FR with Cor or Rubi's with Cor and Minwu (with Lulu LDCA), they can offer a lot of FR% bonus within a short period of time.
Gonna release that HP silence run later in the week.
