DFFOO [JP][Cor LC] The Immortal General, Tifa, and Paine
Didn't get lucky with the free 10+1 ticket draws, so I used the BT tokens for Cor's BT. Had that turned out differently, I would have tokened Balthier's instead.
I don't have Noctis BT, so I didn't go out of my way to get his FR. He is very strong now if you get him though.
This stage is not that good to reach Cor's potential ceiling tbh. If I have to pick a stage, it would have to be one with lots of AOE target attack spam from the enemy.
The boss has high HP (maybe 300m?), so instead of Noctis, I used Tifa instead to burn through its HP.
Boss Info:
Important note:
Boss ABSORBs all elements except being weak to Ice and Earth
It is also immune to elemental debuffs.
Force mechanics:
+1%: Player action (I am just glad +4 is not standardised)
20%: ATK down
30%: Player character self delay by 1T
40%: 30% BRV gain down
60%: All bosses BRV dmg up
FA: Mighty Cobalt Wall+++ (AOE BRV+HP)
- always activate unless it is BT/summon phase
- ATK/DEF/iBRV/mBRV up for 3T
FT: 10T
- BRV/HP dmg up
- Player characters suffer from HP dmg at the start of their turns
Weakness: (cancel FT)
Melee FA that deals more than 9999 BRV dmg
Player FT also inflicts "System down" onto the boss:
- Player gets 100% HP recovered (lmao remarked as guaranteed hit)
- BRV dmg taken up on boss
- DEF down on boss
Relationship with the sword add:
The sword add has very low HP. Even outside of FT, collateral AOE dmg would must likely kill it. So I am not covering most of its things. It has its own recast too, but it is very unlikely you would be seeing it.
Normally the boss would use the recast "Mighty Cobalt Wall", which is merely an AOE BRV attack that gives the same buffs as the FA.
However, if the sword is still alive at that point, it would be upgraded to the +version, becoming a guaranteed hit AOE BRV+HP attack that dispels all character buffs and put on all the generic stats debuffs.
It needs to absorb the sword add to use the recast+, though it will summon a new one immediately after. If your strat is reliant on debuffs, beware of this.
Thresholds:
70/50/30%: Concentrate!
All bosses would get AD down for 5T.
From what I have experienced, it is effectively a couple of consecutive turns.
This fight is a bit weird. It is a mix of getting self-delayed, delayed by the sword but at the same time you don't want the boss to fire off the recast+, since it dispels all the buffs, so you also want to keep the sword dead.
Original thought:
My original and rather odd strat was to enchant the party with an element that the boss would absorb, then use Paine's HP silence to stop it from actually attacking me. Since Cor would still react to attacks that don't actually happen simply because it targets the party, in theory I should be able to set up the boss to use HP attacks every time and farm procs.
The problem is the sword dies way too easily or get absorbed and the BRV only normal recast would not get blocked. So the boss woudl eventually get unstuck.
Current Strat:
Paine is still in the team to HP silence pretty much all threats. Had I actually not kill the boss before the recast happens, the boss would have absorbed the sword, killing it, and not be able to fire off its recast due to the silence. That way I don't have to care about the sword and just focus on the boss from start to finish.
Since the sword's HP is really low, the HP poison from Paine and Cor's attacks would eventually kill it as well.
The boss FA attack, as specified by the info sheet, always happens unless it is summon or BT. Though with Cor and Paine on the right, the HP dmg is nothing and would be recovered through FT cancellation, if not for Cor's HP regen.
The rest is just Tifa bursting down the boss. Paine's Haste stacks at the end would be used by Tifa and Cor to dump all of their FR echoes and finish the boss off.
Regarding Cor:
Cor's BT and rework is very tamed. The major thing is with his EX buff on, his buff lasts for 8T. With his BT on, he will no longer cancel his oath buffs, letting you put it on both party members without needing to use Kain/Freya jump or friend/6 man swap to achieve it (also would not cancel if you use his S1/S2 afterwards).
If you put Cor besides Rubicante against an AOE spamming boss, it can be quite a degenerate situation as it would become a 12 dump off-turn attack fest, assuming the 3rd member is not a off-turn character as well.
Even though with his reaper's gale and EX reworked, Cor's on turn dmg is not high, so I would say going for his off-turn procs in a more defensive setting is a better play for using him.
I am not surprised at all his off-turn did not get to 3 HP hits at all, as 3 procs would make it 9. We will probably need to wait for a new crazy character or C100 era to see it happen. I am however surprised he did not get more % to his FR or more hits on S1/S2.
Not sure what to do with Edgar. The BT off-turn seems interesting with Dorgann (which is someone that I don't have, yet).
