Diablo II: Lord of Destruction - PC - Intro & Den of Evil Quest, Act 1 Gameplay [4K]
Diablo II for many is the pinnacle of the series and also the only one of the first three games not to get a console port. It's perhaps not quite as good as it is made out to be by series fans as in terms of PC RPGs it looked outdated on release when compared to Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment. Indeed the game didn't really come alive until Lord of Destruction released in 2001. That said there is no question it's not a classic and a fantastic game, but it shows you how competitive the genre was at that point in time.
As with the original the game randomly generates the entire world map for each character. There are now seven player classes and the game is broken up into acts each with a different hub town. Combat and gameplay is the same, but the system is far more refined and the character customisation is far more in depth than the first game. Where it falls down is the randomly generated environments are rather bland the first location is largely green field and dark caves and it lacks the dark setting of Tristrim. Diablo II also tends to just chuck hordes of monsters at you, just like the first game.
Where as titles like Baldur's Gate tended to require more combat planning. Truth be told we at Randomsied Gaming prefer the first game, but both are must owns. Still Diablo II looked dated compared to the excellent Record of Lodoss War: Advent of Cardice, which released in Japan on Dreamcast the same day as the original Diablo II hit North American PC shelves.
