Originally, there was going to be some brief flashback scenes that would’ve expanded on the backstory of Chris and Claire Redfield. The two characters had been going through an ongoing search for each other, but this storyline was well established in the video games. Claire comes to Raccoon City in Resident Evil 2 to find Chris, but they don’t end up meeting up until Resident Evil: Code: Veronica. The idea was completely scrapped for the film. Originally, this film was going to be shot in 3D, but after Paul W.S. Anderson saw James Cameron’s Avatar, he became convinced to shoot it in 3D. Paul and his crew ended up spending two weeks in pre-production to learn how to use the 3D camera system.
