946Tim Burton actually included a number of scenes to pay homage to the animated version of the Sleepy Hollow story. WHen Ichabod Crane crosses the covered bridge and hears the frogs croaking his name and the Headless Horseman’s name, it is a direct reference to the same scene in the animated film. Two other scenes include the following chase scene where Ichabod is run down by the Headless Horseman, and later during the climactic chase scene where Ichabod runs into a tree limb and lands on the Horseman’s horse backwards. This is also the first adaptation of the story in which the actor who plays the Headless Horseman didn’t have to hide their head in the cloak. He had to wear a blue mask that was deleted later by means of computer graphics.
