Hey players, DJay here with a new longplay on another difficult bullet hell shmup, Giga Wing.

Description of the game:

Giga Wing is a steampunk themed vertical scrolling bullet hell shmup developed by Takumi and published by Capcom in arcades in February 1999 on the CPS-II arcade system board. It later received a home port on the Sega Dreamcast in November 1999 in Japan and in 2000 internationally. It then received a re-release on the Nintendo Switch in 2021. It was notably the first arcade game in which players can score up to a trillion points, followed by Mars Matrix and its 2000 sequel. The 4 playable ships in this game appear as unlockables in Giga Wing 2 although the pilots of those planes do not appear there, which is accessible by clearing the game 4 times with different characters or via cheat codes. Even though the game itself is a vertical scrolling shmup, it is horizontally oriented, which is considered rare for a title such as this.

Numerous wars had occurred in ancient times, civilizations emerged and disappeared. The main cause of these wars was in fact a divine stone known as the Medallion, known to have brought prosperity and destruction. Numerous amounts of civilizations sought and fought for it, but have vanished. In the year 2050, the battle for the Medallion continues and has become the most explosive war in history. To save the people from the havoc caused by the Medallion, 4 ace fighters, Sinnosuke, Ruby, Isha and Stuck, pilot their own aircraft using a mysterious power granted from the stone they each possess. A new chapter begins...

The game plays much like other vertical scrolling shmups. Players choose from 1 of 4 aircraft (1 additional ship is available exclusively on the Dreamcast version, bringing the total up to 5), each ship with their own unique weapon types. They will then progress through 7 challenging stages. (The seventh stage which is the game's true final stage is accessible if the player has met the condition of clearing 6 of the previous stages without using any continues.) Players must constantly shoot enemies and avoid colliding with aerial targets. Destroying one specific enemy will yield a shot upgrade and a Force Bomb, a secondary weapon which emanates enemy fire and inflicts damage and grants invincibility upon activation. Alternatively, players can use another mechanic known as the Reflect Barrier/Reflect Force, in which players generate a barrier of powerful energy and not only damages enemies, but also reflects projectiles back towards the enemy and grant extra bonus point items upon successful use, though it has a medium lengthed cooldown period. Getting shot by enemies or collisions with any aerial enemies results in the player ship being destroyed and losing a life.

Put an end to the war caused by the Medallion and save the people.
