DJay 95 Plays: Darius Gaiden - Silver Hawk (Arcade) Longplay
5Hey players, DJay here with a new arcade longplay on Taito's arcade shmup of the mid-90's, Darius Gaiden. In this video, only the upper route is completed (Zone A - Z'). The other routes will be shown in the next videos.
Description of the game:
Darius Gaiden - Silver Hawk is a horizontal scrolling bulletstorm shmup released in arcades by Taito Corporation in September 1994 on the Taito F3 System board. It received an updated version called Darius Gaiden - Silver Hawk (Extra Version) a year later. with some changes to the original game. Home ports of the game include the Sega Saturn in 1995, the PlayStation in 1996 and Windows in 1997 and a re-release on PS2 ,XBox and on Windows again in 2006 via the compilation of Taito Legends 2, alongside G-Darius, Metal Black, Elevator Action Returns and more and again in Darius Cozmic Collection in 2019 on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The game itself is a direct sequel to the 1986 original game, even though the subtitle suggests it is a side story. The game was originally named Darius III in the US arcade promos, but there is no game labeled with such name. The game uses the same boss destruction animations from 1991 Metal Black, another game also made by Taito and related to the Darius series. This is the first arcade title in the series to depart from the triple screen or double screens the first two games featured.
Sometime after the epic battle on Planet Darius, the planet withered, forcing a massive emigration to Planet Vadis, however, people have decided to return to their home planet. As they began their return to Planet Darius, an unknown force had gone on a warpath destroying their ports of transits and porting both aerial and nautical. These enemy forces then targeted the main convoy ships (assumed to be the use of transportation between Darius and Vaids). One by one, they have destroyed a handful of Silver Hawk space fighters. And so, Planet Darius is forced with an option of a desperation attack by sending out 2 of the more powerful variants of the Silver Hawk, the Silver Hawk Gaiden, piloted by Case Ardin and Anna Steiner, to counter the attack. A new battle for peace on Planet Darius begins...
Gameplay is just like the predecessors in the series. Players pilot the Silver Hawk Gaiden space fighters (Red is Player 1 and Blue is Player 2) across 7 zones in split into different paths. Players are armed with upgradeable shot and bomb weapons to destroy the enemies that appear. Destroying color coded enemies will yield power-ups (Red yields shot upgrades, green yields bomb upgrades, blue yields shield upgrades, orange destroys everything on-screen and purple yields a black hole bomb power-up). Upon collecting enough of a certain power-up, a weapon or shield will be upgraded to the next level. Taking damage with a shield active will reduce the size of it and reduce it by 1 until it is fully depleted, leaving the Silver Hawk vulnerable to enemy fire. Taking a hit without a shield active or colliding with enemies will destroy the ship. Colliding with hazards will instantly destroy the ship, even with the shield active.
