DJay 95 Plays: The Final Round/Hard Puncher (Arcade) Longplay
Hey players, DJay here with a new arcade longplay on an arcade exclusive boxing game, The Final Round.
Description of the game:
The Final Round (Hard Puncher in Japan) is a boxing game by Konami released in arcades in November 1988 running on the Konami Twin 16 arcade system board, the same system used for Gradius II. For almost 35 years, the game has no home ports or re-releases. 2 of the characters in the game are modeled after the people from the Rocky franchise. The player characters, Jabbin' Jim (Rocky Smith in Japan) and Gentleman Joe (Joe Vulcan in Japan) are designed nearly similar to Lance Bean and Bill Rizer respectively from the Contra series, another game by Konami. The game shares sample sounds from Konami's wrestling game, The Main Event, which was released that same year.
Players choose between 2 playable boxers, Jabbin' Jim and Gentleman Joe. Before beginning the first bout, players must make adjustments in the boxers' attributes. Speed is how fast a boxer can move around the ring, even to avoid some attacks from the opponent, power is determined by how much damage the boxer can inflict on the opponent and stamina is determined by how much damage the boxer can endure and how much energy he can regain after a knockdown. After making adjustments in the attributes, players will then face off against 8 opponents in 8 boxing matches (bouts) and climb the KBA (Konami Boxing Association) rankings to become the boxing champion. In every bout, your goal is to deplete your opponents helath (power) to 0, whilst also using a good defense. If knocked down, press the button and shake the joystick to recover before the referee counts to 10. Both opponents can be knocked down 3 times (the third will be a technical knockout which shows special animations of the fighter crumpling to the canvas, immediately ending the bout). After every second bout, players must go for a training course to further improve their speed, power and stamina depending on their choice. Depending on the player's performance during training, their attribute will increase. If the player loses in any way (a standard knockout or technical knockout) they will be given another chance to continue.
Do you have what it takes to be the world champion?
