DJay 95 Plays: Axelay (SNES) Longplay
5Hey players, DJay here with my very first SNES longplay on the channel. Today we're playing Konami's SNES exclusive title of 1992, Axelay.
Description of the game:
Axelay is a horizontal 2D/vertical 3D scrolling bulletstorm shmup by Konami released exclusively on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System/Super Famicom in September 1992 in Japan and the US and in Europe in September 1993. Although a sequel was mentioned in the game's ending, it never came to fruition. The Axelay space fighter later appears again in Otomedius Excellent as a DLC mecha, piloted by Gesshi Hanafuuma.
In a fictional planetary system known as Illis, all habitants lived in peace. However, that peace was short-lived as an alien empire known as the Armada of Annihilation comes to invade it, taking over the Earth-like Corliss. As a last resort option, the D117B Axelay space fighter takes off and confronts the Armada of Annihilation.
Gameplay is similar in the veins of other Konami shooters such as Gradius and Salamander/Life Force and consists of 6 stages in total. Before beginning each stage, players select 3 weapon armaments, 1 Pod, 1 Side and 1 Bay weapon. Once selected, players head straight into battle with their currently selected weapons and destroy the enemies. Weapons can be switched anytime as long as the player does not get hit. After clearing the stages, new weapons can be unlocked and equipped. If the Axelay takes a hit, the currently selected weapon will be disabled and switch to the next one until the weak default weapon. If the Axelay receives a 4th hit, it will be destroyed and a life will be lost. The Axelay will instantly be destroyed if it collides with any terrain or enemies. Upon completing the game, the game loops again on a harder difficulty, depending on the difficulty setting the player has chosen up until the highest difficulty, Very Hard.
