DJI Osmo Action Microphone Test Comparison Before And After Firmware Update 01.07.00.20
Just as the title says, this is a microphone test of the DJI Osmo Action and specifically the differences in audio quality and level between the latest version 01.07.00.20 firmware update and the previous firmware.
In the previous firmware it was necessary to pull out the mic cable or the Cynova USB microphone adapter and then re-connect it while the camera was in record mode (The Matman Method) in order to get an acceptable level. It used to be the case that the initial recording was of a low level and a dull tone, which then changed to a higher level and better tone after re-inserting the mic cable or Cynova adapter. This can be heard in the first part of this test.
I'm glad to report that this is no longer the case and you now do not need to faff about with the cable or adapter during the take.
In this video I use a Sennheiser ME64 mic which is a sensitive microphone with a healthy output which allows for a good recording level with the Osmo Action and a fairly bright tone. However, I have noticed that less sensitive and lower output mics are recorded fairly low and still a bit dull sounding even with the new firmware, needing to be gained a fair bit in post. I will do a video soon showing this.
At least things are moving in the right direction with the Osmo Action and DJI.
Lastly, thank you to Matman for the heads up on this update.
If you liked this video please give it a thumbs up.
