Before we talk about the track, no, I haven't released the Diddy Kong Racing Car yet. It crashes on console and I'm still not 100% satisfied with it, but I figured I'd use it in the video since it was appropriate and a fun little side project when I got frustrated working on the track.

Anyways, I wanted to make a new custom track in time for Christmas. Originally this was going to be an original track based on Freezeezy Peak from Banjo-Kazooie, but I wasn't sure if I could pull off making an entirely original track in the time I had, so I opted to remake Frosty Village from Diddy Kong Racing. One of these days, I'll get back to making an original track instead of doing all of these remakes, but this is not that day.

This is a ground up remake, not a port. I used AI upscaled textures from the original and I did use an overhead map of the original to try to get the layout down, but I made a number of gameplay changes to better fit Mario Kart. The two side routes in the forest area now require a mushroom to reach and have more concrete "paths" to them, and the hovercraft waterfall path in the original has been changed into a shortcut usable by cars. Unfortunately, the forest area lost its trademark fog as I was unable to find any way to get the fog to roll in and out for only a specific part of the map and I chose to keep the moonlit hill at the beginning instead of bathing the whole track in thick fog for the forest section.

Beyond that, there's still a number of things I have to fix or adjust in this, but I wanted to get this out there before we got too close to Christmas so I didn't feel pressure while I'm already focused on the holidays.
