Thanks to the release of the new Track Studio, I finally decided to bite the bullet and try my hand at both getting into Wii U emulation and Mario Kart 8 custom track making. I had no intention of attempting this any time soon given I thought Mario Kart 8's custom track scene would have little documentation and would be a pain, but literally just yesterday I heard about this new tool to make life way easier. I also kind of feared my computer wouldn't be able to handle Wii U emulation but it turns out it actually runs smoother than Wii and 3DS for some reason.

I ran into a few hiccups while making the track, but overall this proof of concept went well. I was originally going to completely rebuild Super Bell Circuit as my first track (hence why I roughly recreated its layout here while making the clear pipe vertical for anti-grav testing. Clearly I still got the scaling wrong though as it's once again too drawn out) but I feel given how much more effort it will take to make a good looking HD track I will likely not go forward with it and instead sit down and really think about which first project I will pursue. I have little interest in doing ports of my Wii tracks as I feel any direct Wii ports will look ugly and out of place in Mario Kart 8 and I want something that looks reasonable well in HD.

As for my Mario Kart Wii plans, yeah, this will probably impact some of those plans going forward as I've always said I like 8 more. I doubt I'll drop it altogether as I can play it in VR while I can't play 8 (yet) but I don't expect to make too many more Wii tracks soon.
