FaceTime is a great way to stay in touch with friends and family. Both wifi and cellular data are automatically enabled for use with FaceTime, however, when you're connected to a wifi network FaceTime will default to using that. If you're not connected to a wifi network and you're connected to a cellular data network, FaceTime will use that instead. However, because you're sending and receiving video when you use FaceTime, it uses a lot of data. As a result, if you're cellular data plan is capped so that you can only use so much data and not unlimited, you may want to seriously consider turning off FaceTime's ability to use cellular data so you don't chew through all of your monthly data too quickly and risk getting hit with a massive bill. While wifi is always turned on for FaceTime and can't be turned off, you can enable or disable FaceTime's ability to use your cellular data.
Now let's walk through the steps to either enable or disable FaceTime using your cellular data on your iPhone or iPad.
Step 1. Tap the "Settings" app on your iPhone or iPad home screen. The Settings screen appears.
Step 2. Tap "Cellular" in the list of options. The Cellular icon is green and looks like an antenna giving off a signal. The Cellular screen appears.
Step 3. Scroll down to the Cellular Data section, and then find FaceTime in the list of options. The FaceTime icon is green and features a silhouette of a video camera. Tap the toggle to the right of FaceTime to turn it off. You'll now only be able to send and receive FaceTime calls when you're iPhone or iPad is connected to a wifi network.
